This week in the 31 Days of Simplicity series, we’re talking about routines. On day 8, I mentioned Sanity-Saving Shortcuts like baby carrots and bagged salads. For the rest of this week, we’ll look at other simple shortcuts that save time and hassle. Because remember part of my definition of Simplicity is saving time and energy on the mundane things so you can focus on the most important things in life.
Today, we’re talking about socks. No, it isn’t sexy. But it is a simple change that saves a lot of time.
OK, I know it’s obvious that you should have matching socks, unless you’re a tween who’s into the whole mis-matched trend 🙂
But in the name of Simplicity, I’ve taken it a step further. To me, socks are just a way to keep my feet warm and prevent blisters on my heels. They’re not a fashion statement; they’re purely functional. I basically wear white, black and brown, so I buy 6-8 pairs of identical socks in each color. That way, I don’t have to search for matching pairs in the laundry basket (or wherever they get lost in Laundry Purgatory). I don’t even need to fold them; I just stack them in the drawer. No fuss, no muss. I toss my hubby’s athletic socks into old shoe boxes (a black one for his black socks and a light one for his white socks) that sit on a shelf in our closet. It may seem boring, but for me it’s just one easy way of simplifying my life.
Take a look, and decide which one looks quicker to you:
What do you think? Does this little Simplicity trick work for you, or do you love socks like Imelda Marcos loved shoes? Leave a comment below, then join me the rest of this week, when we’re getting matchy-matchy with other things in your home.
