I was going to continue with my Simplicity tricks today, but I read a blog post that stopped me in my tracks. We have a crazy day today, running from one event to another. I’m a little stressed just thinking about it. They’re all good events. Important, can’t-miss, wanna-be-there events. But they’ll keep us out of the house all day. In the meantime, I’m thinking about the unhealthy lunch we’ll probably eat, how we can incorporate some kind of education into the long car rides, and if the baby will get enough floor time.
Then I read Why Being a Mom is Enough from FindingJoy.net and I had to share it. She writes (beautifully) about finding joy and contentment in the everyday things, the Not-For-Pinterest moments that take up most of a mother’s day. Somehow we’ve gotten it into our heads that we have to be Supermom. That our days need to be full of once-in-a-lifetime adventures. Instead, she urges us to find beauty in the “everyday mom moments.”
And I thought: this is the essence of Simplicity. Enjoying the everyday. Finding contentment in the commonplace. Life is not like an episode of Keeping Up the the Kardashians or The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Life is much more ordinary. And awesome. Because it’s ours.
So we’ll still have a busy day. But I want to stop worrying about physical exercise, education, and nutrition. I want to focus, instead, on exercising gratitude for our lives, learning more about my amazing kids, and nourishing our souls as we spend time as a family. And at the end of our day, when the house is quiet and I’m nestled into bed with my 5 year old for “snuggle-buggle” time, I’ll remember that, no matter what momentous or mundane things we experience in life, THIS is my favorite time of each and every day.
Who’s with me?
