For the rest of this week, we’re focusing on easy Simplicity tricks, simple shortcuts with a big payoff. In case you missed yesterday’s post about Matching Socks, you can find it here.
Today’s Simplicity trick is matching hangers. It may seem unnecessary in the grand scheme of things. But take a look at the pictures and see which closet seems less cluttered.
The first picture is chaotic; the second one is peaceful. It’s really not because of the amount of clothes. It’s because of the matching hangers. You get a sense of visual simplicity – and visual peace – that makes the closet a more calming, more inviting place.
So much of simplicity is about our mindset – do we feel stressed out or at peace? Our environment plays a big part in that. When it’s orderly and calm, it’s easier for us to feel that way. Matching hangers are a really easy way to bring some order into our days.
I love these flocked, no-slip hangers.
I use them for my cardigans because they really stay on. It’s so much hassle replacing clothes that constantly slip off the hangers. Life has enough little frustrations; I can easily avoid that one. No-slip hangers are a tad more expensive than others, but remember: Simplicity is about things that make your life easier. Invest in solutions that work and decrease hassle, frustration, and time.
Tubular hangers are less expensive, so I use those for the majority of my clothes. (Bonus tip: Use 2 hangers for heavier jeans so the hangers don’t bend.) But I make sure all my hangers are black, because black fades into the background and I can see my clothes, not the hangers.
For just a few dollars, you can add a sense of order and peace to your daily routine. I don’t know about you, but when I’m struggling through bleary, sleep-deprived eyes to find clothes that fit and look good together, I can use all the calm and peace I can get 😉
