I don’t know about you, but I can’t believe it’s January already! 2014 is here to stay, whether we like it or not! Have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet? If so, what’s on your list? It seems like “Get Organized” is always among the Top 10. It was always Number One on my list until I developed the A.C.T. System for Home Organizing and discovered a way to get organized that really worked for me. Now instead of “Get Organized,” I vow to “Stay Organized.” 😉
But don’t get me wrong. Just because I “wrote the book” on organizing (literally), doesn’t mean my house is ready for a Better Homes and Gardens photo shoot every day. FAR from it. I struggle with clutter as much as the next person. In fact, my house often looks like the dryer exploded in my living room:
Life is busy for all of us, and sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day to deal with ALL the clutter our lives create. But when you’re organized, everything has a place. When you take the time to put it away, you know exactly where it goes, and you can find it when you need it.
In coaching people to help them get organized, I’ve found that what most people really want is simplicity. Getting organized is just a stepping stone toward that larger goal.
Why Simplicity?
Because our lives are more complicated than ever. We’re more stressed than ever. And (according to the US Department of Health) we’re more depressed than ever.
That’s why I’m doing a month-long series called 31 Days of Simplicity. Simplicity is about taking back our lives. It’s about making choices that save us time, energy, and brain power. I’ll show you easy ways to simplify your life. Some will be ideas you’ve heard of before. Others may be new. Take what works for you and simplify your life step by step.
But before we start, I want to clarify what I mean by Simplicity. Too many books on “Simple Living” leave the impression that we all should be living off the grid in some rural backwater and making our own electricity with a bicycle and a windmill. I think their anti-capitalistic slant turns many people off. And their extreme suggestions make some people give up before they even start.
So tomorrow I’ll give you my definition of Simplicity. You’ll probably find it a bit different than what you’ve heard before. And I hope you’ll find it freeing.
